About Us

The Faculty is responsible for full time, part-time and flexible mode teaching programs, scholarship/research programs, consulting activities and community engagement in the areas of sciences, engineering and health. To develop the intellectual capital to support present and future activities, academic staff are organised into four schools.

Welcome to the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering & Health (FSEH)

Our Faculty is undergoing rapid transformation at the moment, with a large number of new programs being developed, or in the pipeline. We can also claim world class research activity occurring in Engineering and in the Medical & Health Sciences and to be leaders in distance education provision. CQ University pioneered distance tertiary education within Australia from the 1980's, mainly with print based learning materials. With the information technology age, delivery to distance students has shifted to quality on-line provision through our institutional learning management system Moodle.

The Faculty is comprised of four schools, each headed by a Dean of School . The academic staff from these school teach (to both on campus and distance students) and research in a wide variety of discipline areas as shown below. Permanent Faculty staff are located at Mackay, Emerald, Rockhampton, Gladstone, Bundaberg and Noosa.

  • Engineering & Built Environment (Industrial and Minerals, Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Building Surveying, Rail Signalling and Telecommunications, Maintenance Management and Project Management)
  • Nursing & Midwifery (Nursing, Midwifery and Clinical Education)
  • Medical & Applied Sciences (Applied and Environmental Science, Medical Imaging and Sonography and Medical, Exercise Science, Oral Health and Chiropractics)
  • Health & Human Services (Human Services, Population Health, Psychology and Allied Health)

Over the past 15 months, the Faculty has been on a major journey to introduce new programs in the allied health disciplines as there is an increasing workforce need for allied health professionals in regional Australia. New courses such as paramedic science, medical laboratory science, medical science, clinical psychology, medical imaging and medical sonography were introduced in 2011, and planning is well advanced to progressively introduce chiropractic science, oral health, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and podiatry from 2012.

A number of very exciting building projects are occurring within the faculty during 2011-12 and these will greatly benefit our students over the coming years. These include the complete rebuilding of the engineering teaching and research facilities at Rockhampton campus, new nursing clinical laboratories at Rockhampton, Mackay and Noosa, and a new allied health clinical teaching facility at Rockhampton. Further building and refurbishment projects are being planned for Bundaberg and Mackay over the next twelve months.

As the Executive Dean and Pro Vice Chancellor of the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering & Health, I extend my warmest welcome to all students enrolling in our programs and I wish you the very best in your studies. You have made an excellent choice to study at CQ University, whether by on-campus or distance study. The most recent Australia wide graduate destination survey results confirm that CQ University graduates gain employment at a higher rate than graduates from most other Australian universities, and additionally, that our graduates on average have a higher starting salary than graduates from other benchmark universities. Central Queensland is an area that is really on the move, with massive mining and related processing infrastructure occurring and our Faculty staff are strongly engaged in these exciting developments both from a technical and human perspective.

Once again, welcome to our Faculty.
