Referencing

Referencing is a way of acknowledging the sources of information you have drawn upon in preparing your assignments. If you do not reference correctly, you may inadvertently plagiarise.

At CQUniversity there are two main systems of referencing:

  1. Harvard - See the PowerPoint presentation about Harvard referencing.
  2. APA (American Psychological Association) - See the PowerPoint presentation about APA referencing.

Check out some frequently asked questions about Harvard referencing or APA referencing.

Please note: the Harvard guide has been updated for 2012. If you have already downloaded an earlier version, you can view the changes/additions here.

Two other referencing systems are sometimes used at CQUniversity:

Your Course Profile will indicate which referencing system you are required to use for each course. Full details of how to reference, why it is important, when you need to reference, and which referencing style you should use can be found on CQUniversity's Referencing website.

You may also like to attend one of CQUniversity's referencing workshops.

In addition, Academic Learning Advisers in CLC are happy to work with your referencing queries at the drop-in centres. You can also direct specific questions about referencing to Academic Learning Advisers by phone or by using the online query service.
