Abstract

The drive for constructive alignment, the reality of mass higher education and the availability of You-Tube are major factors that have changed the nature of university education in general and the act of engaging students in particular. Some interesting attempts to surf this wave in the most technical and boring parts of university learning are demonstrated and discussed. 

The following questions are addressed: 

  • Has anyone succeeded in making portfolio theory thrilling? 
  • Does the excellent teacher of the near future need to be a gifted film director in order to compete?
  • Does the history of the pop video in the 1980s have any lessons for the future of edutainment?
