September 5, 2011

Abstract

The Office of Learning and Teaching and the Student Support Centre invite you to attend a lunchtime presentation by Professor Sally Kift (QUT) on Monday September 5 as part of the CQUniversity Social Inclusion Series.

The topic of Sally's presentation is "Enhancing the first year experience through engagement - focussing on ways to improve the first year experience for students from diverse backgrounds particularly low - SES.

Sally is delivering this presentation as part of a two day professional development event for staff which will focus on ways to improve the first year experience for students at CQUniversity and cater for their diverse needs within the learning and teaching context.

The CQUniversity Social Inclusion Speaker Series seeks to inform staff and students about issues of social inclusion in CQUniversity communities, with a particular emphasis on

  • creating a strong sense of belonging for students, particularly those from under-represented backgrounds.
  • challenging deficit perspectives of learners from under-represented backgrounds by providing an opportunity for staff to learn and contribute to ways of understanding how the cultural contexts and experiences of all learners play an important role in knowledge production in higher education.

Resources are made available to CQUniversity staff (logon required) with permission
